Chris Pratt Calls for Prayer and Quotes Scripture after Charlie Kirk Assassination

Amid national grief and division over Charlie Kirk's assassination, actor Chris Pratt is encouraging Americans to log off the internet, take a stroll outside -- and, most importantly, pray.

The Jurassic World actor made the remarks in a Sunday social media post, four days after the conservative commentator was murdered during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University, and as Americans nationwide grapple with the shock and fallout. Pratt did not mention Kirk in his latest post, although minutes after the shooting, he had written that he was praying for Kirk's recovery: "Praying for Charlie Kirk right now, for his wife and young children, for our country. We need God's grace. God help us."

Pratt's prayer post has more than 600,000 likes and 15,000 comments. 

"Stop real quick and pray with me," he says. "Lord, You say be still and know that I am God -- Psalm 46:10, be still and know that I am God. In this moment, please, Lord, calm my restless mind, quiet my anxious heart. Help me set aside distractions and choose what gives life and gives peace. Isaiah 26:3 -- You keep in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on You. Lord, fill me with strength to turn my attention toward You that I find rest and joy in Your presence. Amen."

He then urged his fans to stop doomscrolling.  

"Okay, now you can continue strolling -- or you can turn your phone off and go outside. Might I suggest the latter? Go get some sunshine, go look at a tree, touch some grass. Call a friend. If you've got time to be on your phone right now, you've got time to do your to-do list, and you've got time to reach out to somebody in need and share this prayer with them. Amen."

Pratt is best known for his roles in the Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy movies, as well as his voice talent in several animated movies, including The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Christian singer Lauren Daigle wrote below Pratt's post, "Prayer is a miracle. Something so simple but so powerful."

Other CCM personalities, including Jordan Feliz, also applauded Pratt for the prayer. 

As a Christian, Pratt said earlier this year, he wants to be bold in his faith.

Citing Matthew 5:14, he proclaimed: "I'm being called to be that city on the hill at this moment in my life."

"You take a risk, I think, being in the entertainment world [in] being vocal about anything that's divisive -- and religion is divisive, and so is politics," he told The Christian Post. "I don't care enough about politics to take a stand one way or another at the expense of my career. But I do care enough about Jesus to take a stand, even if it costs me. If it costs me everything, I don't care," Pratt told The Christian Post. 

"It's worth it to me because this is what I'm called to do. It's where my heart is. I'm a father of four. I want to raise my children up with an understanding that their dad was unashamed of his faith in Jesus and with a profound understanding of the power of prayer and the grace and the love and the joy that can come from a relationship with Jesus. That's something that's really important to me. 

"Anybody really close to me knows that already, but as people are learning that about me, it's an interesting thing, because you don't hear that from a lot from people in entertainment, but it's who I am," he told The Post. 

He added, "I'm not going to hide behind it. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. So to get back to Matthew 5:14 -- that's what it is."
